Success Demystified with #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso

“I never dreamed about success. I worked for it”. - Estée Lauder
A month ago we were celebrating Eunice’s birthday here in Miami, of course, some nice cocktails were involved, and a book came serendipitously into our lives. Two copies of #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso were patiently waiting in a bargain bin, buried underneath single copies of cookbooks and children’s books strewn about. There was something alluring about these two copies, powder-pink with an undeniably cool cover photo of Sophia in a “power pose.” They that called to be taken. What we discovered upon reading this memoir was some much-needed inspiration for our minds, souls, and business. If you’re in need of that as well, then this book is right up your alley.
If you haven’t heard of Sophia Amoruso and her successful online business called Nasty Gal, we are sorry to tell you but it sounds as if you’ve been living under a rock. This powerful woman created a multi-billionaire-dollar company with zero money invested (in fact, the first item she sold was actually stolen), zero contacts and debt-free. How about that for a twenty-something-year-old gal?
Of course, she has been an inspiration for so many women and entrepreneurs all over the world. She even has her own Netflix show. But behind all the impressive anecdotes of her success, we wanted to dig deeper into this question:
What were the small things that added up to make Sophia Amoruso such an incredible success?
Each one of us has our own point of view but agreed on one core thing: hard work and persistence is undeniably the secret.
One of the things we loved most about this book is Sophia’s complete honesty. Through her stories, you begin really understand the pain, sacrifice, and frustration she went through trying to find her place in the world. We love this quote:
“Recognize what is your dream. And then put everything you have into that: your work, the relationships you surround yourself with, the food you put in your body. Everything you have control over in your world should feed that dream and make you feel like a #Girlboss.”
- Sophia Amoruso
Sophia makes it clear that her focus, not luck, was her cohort in building Nasty Gal. Her opinion is that if you put your dreams and desires out to the universe you must also make the effort to align your actions and life with them. That is when the magic happens and that is magic you made it yourself.
So, without further adieu, we invite you to listen to our breakdown of #GirlBoss in the podcast below. We discuss more about this inspiring book, the business advice we learn from Sophia, and how we create magic every single day in our lives and business.
Enjoy!
Love,
