How to Uncover Customer Needs

This month we are continuing to break down the Go-to-Market strategy. I invite you to download my FREE Go-to-Marketing Strategy Template and follow along during this episode of the Marketing for Startups Podcast to capture any ideas that may pop up while you're listening.

Today's episode is all about how to find and connect with your customers. You'll hear a bit of a unique approach from the usual BS that is around the internet on hacks, tips, and tricks...

Listen along as we go through how to prepare your business for sales and the necessary steps you'll need to find and attract your ideal client.

How to Understand Customer Needs

  1. Research is key. Find a sample of your ideal customer and interview them. You can also send surveys. The idea is to have as many conversations as possible with people who are interested/willing to pay for your product or service.

  2. Establish a (proven) value proposition. Through these conversations, you should be able to extract a case for why your company and product/service exists. This should be a quick, compelling elevator pitch.

  3. Create a buyer persona

  4. Develop your Client Value Journey Roadmap

  5. Develop a brand that speaks to your client: ie copy, visuals, website, ads

  6. Iterate and improve

Businesses exist to serve clients and improve their lives. In order to do so, we need to craft a brand, marketing, and sales strategy that connects to the core pains and desires of the client.

The truth is the process of finding clients and creating raving fans starts way, way before the sales process even begins.

Going through the legwork outlined in today's episode will help you understand exactly who your customers are and how to craft messaging that connects with their needs.

Please note: this process is ongoing. The last step of the process, which is"iterating and improving," is where the real magic begins. For this reason, it is vital to have a regular data review practice in your business. Being connected to the key data points and the performance of every campaign you launch will help identify the "sweet spot" that motivates buyers and turns into real revenue for your business.
